VoIP is Voice over IP (Internet Protocol). In other words, phone service using your Internet connection instead of your POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) connection through your local phone company.
Some folks are having a discussion about putting together an Asterisk VoIP co-op via the CIALUG mailing list.
That's prompted the creation of this page, if for no other reason than to collect a mini glossary for all the acronyms and terms that are starting to pop up.
CPE Customer Premises Equipment IAXy a device sold by Digium that connects the ethernet side to CPE (ie, you're phone). It speaks the IAX protocol, and runs for about a hectobuck.
